Bulls Masters ready for revenge

Cairns Regional Councillor Brett Moller will lead the charge to defend his Masters’ title when the Mayor’s XI take on the Queensland Bulls Masters in a T20 exhibition cricket match at the Walker Road Sporting Complex, Edmonton on Friday 24 May.

The Queensland Bulls Masters return headlined by one of Australia's 100 National Living Treasures, Allan Border AO.

Joining Border is an impressive roll call of cricketing royalty including Wicket Keeper of the Century Ian Healy, and dynamic former batsman Andrew Symonds.

Cr Moller was confident the Mayor’s XI would again come out on top in the match- up but believed the Bulls would be looking to turn the tables on the 2017 result.

“We are buoyed from our result at the last Masters Games, so we are settling into this match full of confidence,” Cr Moller said. “But we know that the Bulls will be very competitive as they will be looking to turn around the result this year.

“It is very exciting that some of our young up-and-coming cricketers from Cairns will get to rub shoulders with their idols during the match and that we get to play on the magnificent Minniecon-Gregory Oval at Edmonton.”

Cairns Mayor Bob Manning said the match also provided an opportunity for members of the public to get up close to some of the biggest names in Australian sport.

“Cricket is one of the biggest sports featuring in the 2019 Great Barrier Reef Masters Games and this match will provide an opportunity for locals and Games competitors to see some of Australia’s greatest cricketers of all time on our home turf,” Cr Manning said.

“This is a great way to spend a Friday afternoon. This is a free event for the whole family and I encourage everyone to come down and cheer on their local Cairns team.”

The 2019 Great Barrier Reef Masters Games are presented by Cairns Regional Council and proudly supported by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland as part of its growing calendar of events in Tropical North Queensland.
